i drink a lot of zip fizz (powder energy drink). is that okay?
ive never really “felt” the intensity energy drinks promise and that just fine with me, i find my endurance to be pretty self motivated and strong, as im only 28 and within the last year been at my most athletic peak since high school. i was turned onto the drink as my girlfriend thought shes like it, but never really did, so i thought i would finish off the box. since then i add it to most of the water i drink (40-80 ounces a day), just because i like the taste and it has a lot of vitamins. im just curious if there is anything that i may be overloading on or detremental to my health. zipfizz.com has the list of vitamins and supplements on their website, but not the daily percentages, which is on the packaging. (vc-500mg, ve 10 iu, thiamin .38mg, riboflavin .43mg, niacin 10 mg, vb6 2.5 mg, folate 13 mcg, v b12 2500 mg, pantothetic acid 2.5 mg, calcium 60mg, magnessium 100 mg,zinc 2 mg, selenium 5 mcg, manganese 1 mg, chromium 100 mcg, sodium 60 mg, potassium 905 mg)
As long as it’s supplemented with water, the vitamins won’t really be of any harm. The concerns with energy drinks is the caffeine content. I’ve had multiple patients who have collapsed from heart dysrythmias due to over consumption of energy drinks. Looking at the ingredients, I’d suggest 1 a day, and only ever 1. Its very high in potassium, which can cause muscle spasms and cardiac arrest in high doses (note: the high doses must be in the bloodstream, and it is very difficult for somebody with a normal metabolic and digestive system to absorb high amounts of potassium from a dietary source, however, in the odd event that you do have an underlying condition, over consumption of potassium could be fatal and I do emphasize that that is a VERY unlikely event). The body naturally filters vitamins that it does not need and passes them in the urine, and judging by the makeup of the drink, its got pretty much all you would need for a daily supplement in 1 serving. Stick to one a day, don’t mix with caffinated beverages or alcohol.
