people we knew,
Some we could count on
but only a few

Flimsy cloth in my hand,
I pick at its fibers

the key to the confusion is dementia.. it does wander in and out..
Dementia is a living death. I have seen it often as a volunteer in a nursing facility. You have described it with understanding and compassion. A person with dementia still contains a real person inside and the strange firing of the neurons allows moments of clarity. We live in the brain and I pray that someday a remedy will be found for this terrible condition.
