Supports Orthotics
Foot orthotics, any ideas on what I can use?
I was diagnosed with sciatica (by an after hours doctor’s office) caused from running and possibly not having the correct support in my shoes (high arch).
It seemed as if it was going away after 5 or 6 months, then I got pregnant which put more pressure on my sciatic nerve causing awful tingling/nerve pain in my foot again. Now, even after delivery, I get discomfort in my foot and I can feel the pull when I walk or step. I am considering going to our local medical supply store, Optioncare, and looking for something to fit in my shoes. None of those lovely show inserts from Walmart do the job.
The best shoes I have found, New Balance running shoes, don’t have just the right support for me and I can’t wear them to work every day. Any suggestions for an insert?
I’d really suggest getting custom orthotics made. Any pedorthist should be able to do this IN store (most really good shoe stores have them… usually family owned places; I’d check your local yellow pages). Sometimes they are covered by insurance. I suggest them either way. I’ve been using them for over 5 years now and wouldn’t ever not use them anymore. I have a collapsing arch, so I understand your pain.
They are very much worth the money.
